Mimar JM Murphy (MJM) served as Prime consultant and Structural Engineer of Record providing A/E design and construction period services for the evaluation, and structural design repairs of the 31,146SF Building 137A concrete floor deck.
The full scope of services included the site investigation, architectural design, structural analysis, condition assessment, the preparation of an infection control risk assessment (ICRA) in conjunction with VA safety/infection control staff, construction drawings and specifications, third party construction cost estimates, construction period services, and construction final inspection.
MJM conducted the site investigation to determine the condition of the deck to identify deficiencies. A hazardous material and asbestos survey to identify any presence of these materials was conducted and a report and location drawing was provided as part of the 35% design submission. Life safety and infection control were considered during all phases of design and are a crucial part of the project.
A key component of the project was to develop and phase the repair plans in such a manner as to minimize any impacts to on-going facility operations and the use of the deck during construction activities.
All the work was completed to meet an aggressive project schedule developed by the VA. There was no construction change orders for extra work on this project.
